Chapter 6 of Thinking through Aesthetics is about communication skills and practice/practical application. It stresses that our jobs as art teachers are to provide opportunities for practice. The last quote from the book was a little hard to agree with. I want to agree that the focus should be refining skills, finding the golden nugget of a core idea, and having an understanding. However, I as an art teacher don't want the specific art works to go to the way side. The trick is to have both as a focus. Practice and teach skills while still making it about art and experience.
